Terms of use

Last updated 18 October 2026

These terms apply to everyone who uses Blackboard.lk, the Blackboard mobile apps and the Blackboard Teacher app (together, "Blackboard"). By creating an account or using Blackboard you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

1. Your account

  • You need an account to buy courses, join classes or pay fees. Give us accurate details and keep them up to date.
  • Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
  • If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf and should supervise your use of Blackboard.
  • One account is for one person. Don't share or sell access to your account.

2. Courses and classes

  • When you buy a course you get a personal, non-transferable licence to watch it for as long as it stays on Blackboard, unless it is refunded.
  • Live classes are run by the teacher of each batch. The teacher sets the schedule and may change or cancel a class; we'll notify you when that happens.
  • Course content belongs to the teacher who made it. You may not download, record, copy, share or resell lessons, live classes or course materials, except for files the teacher offers for download for your own study.
  • Certificates confirm that you completed a course on Blackboard. They are not an official qualification unless the course says otherwise.

3. Payments

  • Prices are shown in Sri Lankan rupees (LKR) and include any taxes that apply.
  • Payments are processed by PayHere. We never see or store your full card details.
  • Class fees are set by each teacher for their batch. Paying a fee gives you access to that batch for the period it covers.
  • Refunds follow our refund policy.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Upload or post anything unlawful, abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else's rights
  • Harass teachers or other students in questions, reviews or live classes
  • Try to break, overload or get around the security of Blackboard
  • Use Blackboard to advertise or to send spam
  • Create accounts with false details or impersonate anyone

We may remove content, suspend or close accounts that break these rules.

5. Teachers

If you teach on Blackboard, these extra terms apply:

  • Only publish content you own or have permission to use. You keep ownership of your content and give Blackboard a licence to host, stream and promote it on the platform.
  • Courses are reviewed before they are published. We may decline or unpublish content that breaks these terms or doesn't meet our quality guidelines.
  • For each sale, Blackboard keeps the platform commission shown in your instructor console. The rest is credited to your wallet once the payment clears.
  • You can request a payout to a Sri Lankan bank account once your balance reaches the minimum shown in the console. Refunded sales are deducted from your wallet.
  • You are responsible for your own taxes on your earnings.
  • Treat students with respect, keep their personal details private and only use them to run your classes.

6. Changes and availability

We work to keep Blackboard available at all times but can't promise it will never be interrupted. We may change or discontinue features. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect.

7. Liability

Blackboard is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, or for content and teaching provided by teachers. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Sri Lankan consumer law.

8. Closing your account

You can delete your account at any time from Account settings. See delete your account for what happens to your data.

9. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Sri Lanka have jurisdiction over any dispute.
